Mental game

How do I beat someone who beats me most of the time?

There are different ways you can approach this, First try to relax and just have fun dont think about winnning or losing; just think about playing good. I find it sometimes good to forget about the score and just hit the ball.

If you think about it too much your losing on the time to react to a ball, table tennis is a hit and react game not too much thinking should be involved.

Try new things, hit to the weakness of your opponent if he\she has one.

Key is have fun!

Side Spin

June 7th, 2006

Side Spin is very helpful when serving or when returning a shot. The way to generate the side spin is to almost slide the racquet on the ball sideways, it almost feels like your pushing or slicing the ball sideways. Check out my side spin video for more info.

Topspin

April 6th, 2006

How do I hit a topspin shot?

Topspin shot is generated by going under the ball and then upwards, kinda like writing the “C” letter starting from bottom to top. I also refer to it as a ball on the beach and you’re tryign to push that ball on the sand. You start going from underneath the ball into a curve motion. This gives the ball this topspin in which its top spins at first.

Returning powerful serves

March 17th, 2006

How to return fast serves?

In table tennis anticipation is extremely important. It’s like returning a serve in tennis but with shorter distance and less time to react. They key is to positon yourself good and learn how to half-swing at the fast return. Only use full-swing when the serve bounces short or way inside the table. The key is to keep the ball in the play not go for winners on every return.

Just Hit It

November 29th, 2005

Why do I get in this situation everytime?

Everytime I hit a good shot and my opponent returns it I tend to hit the next shot even harder. This is a question of patience! For experienced players they tend to just hit the ball back and keep the ball in play, if you happen to get into that kind of game where you hit a good shot and your opponent is a pusher; you need to keep calm and just play the point out. Going for too much is never the solution in this case. Take your time and make your opponent miss first!
